Welcome!

Welcome to the WMH Indoor World Cup 2022! It is has been a long and challenging time for everyone worldwide. While the difficulties are far from over, we take solace in the hope that better days are not too far away.

USA Field Hockey is proud to host this event and to help deliver the first ever WMH World Cup in the United States. Organizing this major hockey event fits in well with our mission to support field hockey as a sport for all, and a sport for life. We are deeply honored by this opportunity, and plan to make this a wonderful event that can help to bring our community back together for a truly memorable tournament.

The organizing committee includes several players who have played in both previous MIWCs in Krefeld and Hong Kong, as well as in Indoor Pan Ams and Indoor World Cups. Others have arranged some of the largest indoor hockey tournaments in the world. We are committed to partnering with WMH to create a superb event, and also ensure that all attendees have ample opportunities to celebrate friendships old and new.

We hope that you will join us here in the United States for an incredible week of indoor hockey in Virginia Beach, in February of 2022!

Teams

We have had remarkable interest, and are very pleased that there are a huge number of teams registered. We have 37 teams fully confirmed, and which is by far the largest master's indoor world cup yet.

The following countries will be represented:

  • Canada

  • England

  • Germany

  • Guyana

  • Ghana

  • Italy

  • Netherlands

  • Switzerland

  • Trinidad and Tobago

  • United States

This will truly be a World Cup with global participation. After our long layoff, teams are excited to play again!

COVID / Health and Safety

Obviously, the world situation remains difficult and we are closely monitoring the situation and remain committed to holding a safe and enjoyable event. We will be doing everything possible to ensure as safe an environment as possible, so that we can enjoy our sport together.

To this end, WMH has released a full set of COVID protocols that will apply to all participants including players, coaches, umpires, officials, and any spectators. The include providing proof of full vaccination, and a rigorous testing requirement of daily testing.

We are working hard to create the logistical support for these measures, including providing teams with locations for fast turnaround PCR tests and rapid antigen testing at the lowest possible cost.

Note that our facility is extremely large which provides extra ventilation. Masks will be required while indoors except for those participants at their specified court and playing time, or while actively eating and drinking.

Transportation & Local Info

The easiest way to arrive in Virginia Beach is to fly to Norfolk International Airport (ORF), which is only a 20 minute drive from the venue and hotels. Alternatively, it is possible to fly to any of the airports in the Washington DC, Baltimore, or Richmond areas, which would then require a longer drive. It is also possible to take a short hop flight from New York to Norfolk for those who wish to vacation there before or after the WMIHC.
